STEAMBOAT STOPPING AT KANSAS CITY FOR VIP PASSENGER...It was the summer of 1987 and Sherri Smith had booked passage on an unscheduled riverboat headed down the wide Missouri for New Orleans. Sherri was dismayed and full of sorrow as the stern-wheeler steamed on by. Guests onboard were waving and shouting at her. She tried to get the word to the Captain that she was supposed to board. Evidently, their passenger list didn't include one Ms Sherri Smith and she ended up taking a Greyhound bus. The last I heard, she won an enormous lawsuit for thousands of dollars and eventually opened a bar in the French Quarter. Photo by Dennis Hodges
